Greece. How do I even put into words what Greece means to me? I left my heart there some years back and I have never been the same since. Greece was the start of big changes and new beginnings for me and I don’t think I will ever think of anywhere in the world quite the same. Greece is where I found me.
So apart from my personal journey, what else was it that was so appealing? Where to start? The people – friendly and warm, the sights – ancient, mysterious, magical, interesting and of course the history.
But without a doubt Greece, and particularly Santorini is spectacularly beautiful, an island of contrasts and colours and textures. A place that awakens the senses. From swimming in the turquoise water, to walking the black beaches to exploring the whitewashed laneways of villages clinging precariously to the sides of cliffs, Santorini really is like no other place on earth.
So imagine the feeling of going back. Of sharing it with others. Of capturing a place so magical on canvas. I mean we’ve all seen the images of those blue domes and white buildings, the rugged cliff faces all facing a caldera that hides mystical stories of the past.
Imagine that painting was yours, created by your own hand. A moment captured in time to be remembered and relived each time you see that painting…
And just to tease you a little, here is a sneak peak of what’s in store for the traveller keen on creativity.
The islands of Greece are filled with corners like this. Beautiful nooks that inspire the creative. The problem here will not be what to paint, but how to possibly capture it all.
The villages of Santorini that cling to the rugged cliffs offer a plethora of content for the artist.
The senses are on overload here from the light to the most beautiful sunset on earth and the colours - all the colours of white, pinks, blues, butter yellows and the bluest of blue waters blending with the bluest of skies.
Not all painting demonstrations are structured, in fact some are impromptu, particularly when you literally stumble upon a beautiful vista when you're out and about exploring.
The Acropolis is a "Painter's Paradise". The beauty of the Parthenon at night is a sight to behold.
